As your dating relationship progresses, discussion not only flows easier but (hopefully) becomes more important.  B.B. suggested perhaps it even become mundane?

The one exception to this rule would have to be first dates, as the first time you meet someone you probably have more topics to discuss easily (in comparison to the second) because you literally have never talked to this person before — at least not in a dating context.

We then thought it was interesting that the likelihood of hooking up with said date probably follows an inverse line — low but still possible in the beginning,  (i.e. a one night stand scenario), then likelihood then drops on the second date (as you’re sizing each other up as “bf/gf material”) before becoming increasingly likely after the 3rd, 4th, 5th date.  It’s beautiful in its simplicity.

UPDATE: We have received some push-back on to the accuracy and general understanding of this chart. Admittedly, the graph includes both “time” and “conversation” on the X-axis.  Clearly, this is my mistake.  What we’re really looking at here is TWO y-variables: “Level of Conversation” (black) and “Likliness to hookup” (oragnge), overlayed on the same x-axis based on time in the form of dates.  I have MSpainted a less-elegant solution:

As far as Men* go, where do they sit on an x/y graph with “Effeminate” to “Manly” on the X-axis and “Classy” to “Trashy” on the Y-axis.

Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, Lloyd Dobler / John Cusack himself, sits at the dead center.

We’d also like to note effeminate does not necessarily connote homosexuality, nor would manliness necessary mean heterosexual.

*When doing this scale, “Men” very quickly became fictional depictions of men.  Actually, except for Tom Wolfe, all corners of the graph are embodied by people that aren’t real.  And to argue further, most of our knowledge of the “real” men on this list are based on how we know them through the media, television and film.

We actually talked a lot about these stages, and I’ll have to be reminded of what exactly some of them mean (and what some of those acronyms are).

After two shared experiences of terrible United Stats Postal Service service we jotted this scale.  The left being the least inept parts of the Postal Service, the right being the most inept.

• 0.0 – “No borders on what you can deliver where”.  In other words.  The whole concept of “mail” — that you can write a location on a piece of paper, slap it on anything, and it will arrive there — is pretty cool.
• 0.2 – Beating out the more-advanced technology of the telegraph — pretty impressive
• 0.3 – Featured Stamps.  Still fun.
• 1.0 – Postcards.  Still Fun
• 2.0 – “Fargo” the movie
• 2.2 – Postal Service Outfits
• 2.5 – The ability to blame the USPS for their ineptitude
• 3.0 – The blissful ignorance of e-mail
• 3.9 – The Postal Service (the band) featured in UPS commercials
• 4.0 – Netflix
• 5.0 – Forever Stamps
• 5.2 – Overcharging for stamps (third-party)
• 5.9 – Cannot compete with private companies like UPS, DHL, FedEx
• 7.0 – Packages do not arrive on time.  (i.e. “Two Day Mail” does not arrive in two days, and never will).
• 8.2 – “Priority Mail vs Express Mail” — can you tell by-name which ones better/faster/cheaper?  We can’t.
• 9.0 – USPS Postal Workers, i.e. “going postal”
• 10.0 – Losing your birth certificate and passport (in the same package) after paying for a “rush” request.  (Never receiving either).

Quick explanation:  We sit on inflatable balls.  Sometimes we get the team to try to balance on them as long as possible.  You can track our progress here.
